Children and Youth Services

Mission Statement

Working cooperatively with families in Mifflin County to ensure all children have a safe and stable environment in which to live, grow, and succeed.

About the Department

There are some departments within our local government that almost should not exist.  It is never a happy occasion to see problems within the family, especially with children. But here in Mifflin County, there is help.  And that's where the Children and Youth department comes into play.  Helping children and families is their forte.  The staff consists of caring, dedicated individuals who care about their job, and care about people even more. Mifflin County Children and Youth is the county agency responsible for investigating reports of child abuse and neglect and providing intervention when needed. The agency works closely with law enforcement, education, counseling, and other professionals to help families resolve the problems that lead to the mistreatment of children.

Children and Youth is also involved in prevention activities. Speakers from the agency are available to address civic, religious, and educational groups at no charge. Topics that can be addressed include: child abuse and neglect, agency policies and practices, state regulations, parenting concerns, and related subjects. Children and Youth provides an Information and Referral service to assist in finding help for family problems. Callers can remain anonymous.

Mifflin County Children and Youth Services does not exclude, deny benefits to or otherwise discriminate against any person on the grounds of race (to include hair type, hair texture, or hair style), color, age (40 and over), sex (to include pregnancy status, childbirth status, breastfeeding status, sex assigned at birth, gender identity or expression, affectional or sexual orientation, and differences in sex development), ancestry, national origin (including Limited English Proficiency), religious creed (to include all aspects of religious observances and practice, as well as belief), disability, and retaliation.

Coverage is provided 24-hours a day for receiving reports of abuse and neglect.
